New MOOG MBI 50-1/S truck version delivered for a Highway project in Hong Kong

15.01.2008

Route 8 in Hong Kong is an 18.3 km dual 3-lane carriageway highway under construction which will link West Kowloon and the Northeast New Territories of Hong Kong. It is a combination of many sections. The section between Tsing Yi and Cheung Sha Wan consists of the Stonecutters Bridge for which MOOG is actually producing 6 fixed installed bridge inspection gantries.
In the last few years MOOG has matured to be the major supplier of Bridge Inspection Equipment in Hong Kong.Other MOOG machines have been operating here for many years. Conjointly with the fixed installed gantries for the Stonecutters Bridge MOOG supplied its biggest and its smallest road units for the inspection of this particular Highway in the fourth quarter of 2007.
The smallest MOOG unit – MBI 45-1/S trailer – has been modified and mounted onto a small truck. To perfectly fulfil all the requirements of the project MOOG created the new MBI 50-1/S truck version out of it. Very compact and easy to handle is the best description for this unit. Constructed from 80% aluminium and thus weighting only 3.5 to thus unit still boasts many comforts. All movements are hydraulically driven a wind sensor on top of the tower lets the operators know of critical wind speed. A scaffold allows the operators better access to girders. With its 5 m platform length the unit is capable of overcoming sound barriers of up to 2.3 m and has a lowering depth of 4.8 m. As with all MOOG truck mounted units this unit also has two operating systems: initially the PTO from the truck and secondly the fitted generator.
